Walks & Nature
ortijo Bujio is set amidst spectacular countryside ideal for walking and picnicking. For those wishing to explore the area, there is much to be seen: paths trodden for hundreds of years traverse ancient Spanish woodlands and olive groves, some leading to a lagoon where many a tired walker has cooled off on a hot summer’s day. Wildlife enthusiasts do not have far to go, for amongst the rich bird life, they may on occasion be graced with the sight of Spain’s Royal Eagle soaring above the cortijo, or can watch the path of migratory birds. At dusk, the air hums with the sound of cicadas, and in the hottest months, swallows and swifts are never far from Bujio. For those interested in history, there is more than historic Granada to explore in the area, for many old tracks lead to fascinating prehistoric Dolmens and Roman ruins. Walks range from hour-long to daylong excursions; during the summer months, no specialist equipment is required, merely sensible trainers, light clothing and plenty of fluids. Detailed itineraries of walks can be found at the Cortijo.
